TaeYun Kim

Patent Engineer

By his 20's he was a working in Research and Development at a large electronics firm in South Korea -- a company that makes the plasma television sets you can find at your local big box store. By every measure, TaeYun Kim was a successful young engineer. He soon mastered his job. But that was just the problem: Taeyun needed a new goal. He is one of those guys who Needs to Know.

TaeYun needs to understand how things work. And that need means a lifetime of inquiry.

He grew up in South Korea, in a small town at the crossroads of three major railroads leading to the country's centers of manufacturing and learning. He earned his undergraduate and Masters degrees at Yonsei University with a focus in Ceramics Engineering, fueled by undergraduate scholarships for 6 consecutive semesters.

Seven years at his engineering job left him wanting more, a challenge, a deeper theoretical foundation. So, at 30 he left South Korea for North Carolina State University, where in a few years he gathered a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering.

He began working for start-up firms, and that work led him quite naturally to the study of intellectual property protection.

Patent work! TaeYun discovered that patent engineering is a great way to fuel and channel his need for new challenges.

Now he's putting that drive to work for McGarry Bair's clients, especially those whose interests require knowledge of materials science and fluency in Korean.
